I had one full weekend with a bunch of pre-teens. The members from the band and orchestra trip that we went with had quite the personalities. They would get rowdy, a little out of line once in a while, but for the most part I was so impressed with their ability to get along with one another. I did not see one argument or fight. This, I found amazing. The kids divided in groups and every time I saw them they were with someone new. These kids have really developed good relationships with one another over the years. It renewed my faith in the younger generation-even with all the exposure to MTV and explicit music.
I hung out with two mothers that I really bonded with over the trip. The amount of hours we had to spend at the parks really provided a lot of time to get to know these two very intelligent and experienced women. The one thing about being in action in life, is the opportunity of meeting up with new people, who had quite different backgrounds. What we all shared were children of similar ages and similar parenting experiences. What a rewarding experience this was. I have two great new friends. We rode rides together, talked and had drinks with each other, we had great laughs, touching moments. I would have never met these people if I did not volunteer for this trip, I will have to volunteer more. Okay laying out for a couple of hours with a margarita in hand sure helped make for a pleasant trip.
As for our pre-teens...One group of boys were a little more rowdy than the rest and were a handful for one parent. Their salvation was listening to them perform on the stage at Disney beautifully. It really made present that kids will be kids and these were really, in essence, great kids. Kudos to the instructors for a great performance. They outperformed other high school bands that performed that day. Our kids sounded like a class act on the stage. It will be a memory they will never forget. I smiled as I thought someday they will bring their kids here and tell them, I performed here on this stage.
After their performance, they made a quick change and rode the rides until dark. The day ended with the most phenomenal fireworks display I have ever seen. Tinker Bell flew out of the castle... a surprise to us all. I have been to Disney before, but this was really quite an experience. The park was impeccably clean with tons of guests that day. You look around at all the scenery and the decor and character that went into each ride. It is amazing that this all started by a simple man. And Mickey was not originally even his character- Walt Disney. Truly, dreams do come true. I looked at all the kids out there, wondering where will we find them in twenty years? Do we have any great inventors here, professional musicians? I sat next to a young lady who played the flute on the way home. She told me she wanted to be a cardiologist. I bet she will be.
We did MGM, Epcot, Disney World and Animal Kingdom in four days. I liked Epcot the best. Great food and I relay liked visiting the different countries. The soaring ride that made you feel like you were soaring over California was amazing. I really felt like I was there. I sat by my daughter on the ride, and we shared the experience together. A great mother-daughter moment. It was quite a trip. We had 82 degree weather and lots of sun. I really should consider heading to Florida for spring break more often. It was a nice reprieve from the cold weather in the mid-west.

Home again, still digesting the very full weekend we had. I feel so lucky as a parent I was able to be a part of this experience with my daughter. Still unpacking some and making up time with my kids that were not there. These are the moments worth living.
